Is an 1100 SAT score good?

An 1100 SAT is above average. It's at the 62nd percentile of recent SAT takers and at the 67th percentile of all U.S. 11th and 12th graders, by College Board's percentiles. Whether it's good for you depends on your colleges: it's inside or above the middle 50% of enrolled freshmen at 553 of the 925 colleges we track with published SAT ranges.

    Key takeaways

    • An 1100 is inside the middle 50% at Arizona, Michigan State, Alabama, Kentucky and FIU, and 10 to 60 points short at Texas Tech, Utah, Colorado Boulder, Iowa, Houston and Texas A&M.
    • Texas A&M's range describes most of its class (77% of first-years sent an SAT); Oregon State's describes 8%.
    • At Michigan State and Alabama, an 1100 is in range but still a close call to send.

Where does an 1100 fall short?

An 1100 is 10 to 60 points below the 25th percentile at Texas Tech (1110), Utah (1120), Colorado Boulder (1130), Iowa (1130), Houston (1140), Texas A&M (1160) and South Florida (1160). At 1150, the first five are inside their ranges.

The ranges don't carry the same weight. At Texas A&M, 77% of Fall 2025 first-years sent an SAT, and at South Florida, which requires scores, 78% did. At Oregon State (1128), 8% did.

Should you send an 1100 to test-optional colleges?

At many colleges, yes: an 1100 is at or above our estimate of the typical SAT of freshmen who enrolled without one at about half the test-optional colleges we can estimate, including Arizona (1080), Arkansas (1080), UIC (1080) and Kentucky (1090).

At Michigan State and Alabama, an 1100 is inside the range (1100-1310 and 1100-1360) and slightly under that estimate, which is 1120 at both, so it's a close call and your GPA decides. At Texas A&M (1170) and Houston (1150), apply without it.

Which scholarships does an 1100 earn?

Several public universities' automatic grids have a tier that starts at 1100. Middle Tennessee State's True Blue Scholarship pays $3,500 a year from 1100 with a 3.5 GPA, and out-of-state students at Memphis receive $7,000 a year from 1100 with a 3.25. Texas State's Distinguished Scholarship pays $4,000 a year from 1060.

The University of Dallas pays $31,000 a year at 1100, and some private grids step up at 1130, 30 points away: Drury pays $24,000 a year from 1130 with a 4.00 GPA. This page counts only awards with an SAT minimum. Many colleges also give merit aid on GPA alone; our merit aid calculator estimates awards from your GPA and score together.

Automatic scholarships with an SAT minimum at or below 1100

79 colleges we track publish an automatic merit award with an SAT minimum at or below 1100, including colleges not listed above. Each award's other requirements, usually a GPA, are listed with it, and the college's page has every rule. Largest first.

    What 50 more points changes

At 1150, 179 colleges move up a band, 137 test-optional colleges become worth sending to, and 26 colleges have a larger scholarship whose SAT minimum it meets. See every college at 1150.

    Moves up a band (179)

    Becomes worth sending (137)

    Meets a larger award's SAT minimum (26)

We sort by score alone, with the same rules as our college pages, because this page doesn't ask for your GPA. SAT ranges are the middle 50% of enrolled freshmen who sent scores, mostly the Fall 2025 entering class, from each college's Common Data Set or the federal College Scorecard. Test policies are for fall 2027. "Send from" is our estimate of the typical SAT of freshmen who enrolled without one. Scholarships come from each college's published policy, linked.

What costs points at an 1100?

At 1100, pacing and accuracy are usually worth more than new content. In Reading and Writing, a two-pass approach helps: answer what you can, mark the questions that stall you, and come back with the time left. In Math, use Desmos to check algebra and to solve systems and quadratics by graphing.

Track why you miss each question. If most misses are "knew how and got it wrong," the fix is a checking habit. If they cluster in one domain, such as Advanced Math (quadratics, exponential functions), that domain is the next unit to study. We've written more about what to practice between 1000 and 1200.

Common questions about an 1100 SAT

Is an 1100 a good SAT score?
An 1100 SAT is above average. It's at the 62nd percentile of recent SAT takers and at the 67th percentile of all U.S. 11th and 12th graders, by College Board's percentiles. Whether it's good for you depends on your colleges: it's inside or above the middle 50% of enrolled freshmen at 553 of the 925 colleges we track with published SAT ranges.
What percentile is an 1100 on the SAT?
An 1100 is at the 62nd percentile among students who took the SAT and graduated in the past three school years (College Board's user group percentiles): about 38% of them scored higher. Against all U.S. 11th and 12th graders, including those who don't take the SAT (College Board's nationally representative percentiles), it's at the 67th percentile.
What colleges can I get into with an 1100 SAT?
By score alone, an 1100 makes 481 colleges we track a target, including CUNY Hunter College, CUNY Bernard M Baruch College and CUNY City College, and 71 colleges likely: it's above the middle 50% of their freshmen. Grades, courses and the rest of your file count too, and colleges admitting under 15% of applicants are a reach for everyone.
Should I send an 1100 to test-optional colleges?
At 398 of the 762 test-optional colleges where we estimate the typical score of freshmen who enrolled without one, an 1100 is at or above it, so sending it helps. Elsewhere, applying without it is usually the better call, unless the score earns a scholarship. Each college's row in the table gives the call.
What ACT score is an 1100 SAT?
An 1100 SAT matches a 22 on the ACT, by the concordance tables ACT and College Board published together in 2018.
Should I retake the SAT with an 1100?
It depends on your list. Fifty more points, 1150, would move up a band at 179 colleges, become worth sending at 137 colleges and meet a richer scholarship's SAT minimum at 26 colleges. If none of those colleges is on your list, you may get more from spending that time on the rest of your application.
